Year 6 have been learning about the Christmas Day truce in 1914, when the fighting ceased for 24 hours and British and German soldiers played football.  You can learn more about by watching this documentary.

Today we have been writing letters home from the front line describing the events, however it needed to be short and precise so as to fit on the back of a postcard. Here is one example:

Dear family,

You won’t believe what happened today, British and German soldiers played football with each other. It was difficult to win against the Germans. I found it interesting when we met and shared cigarettes. I didn’t expect that we would be doing all these things, better than being in the trenches,

Miss you, Jim
