Year 5
We believe that children have a right to expect a curriculum which is fun, motivating, interesting and most importantly purposeful. We strive to develop imagination through a stimulating, creative environment where every child has the opportunity to shine.
At Hedon Primary School we aim to deliver all subjects thoughtfully and to make links that are relevant, appropriate and purposeful to the area of learning

Swimming Lessons
As swimming provision was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, we have moved swimming teaching into year 5.
Swimming is the only sport to be named within the national curriculum physical education programme of study. All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key Stage 1 or 2.
Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
Where pupils do not meet the criteria above in year 5, they will attend lessons in year 6.
